Quote Regarding Funding to Expand Weatherization Assistance Programs in Florida

Congressman Kendrick B. Meek (D-FL) issued the following quote regarding U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu’s announcement today that the Department of Energy is providing more than $70 million in Recovery Act funding to expand weatherization assistance programs in Florida:

“I applaud the Obama Administration’s efforts in expanding weatherization assistance programs in Florida. With Florida receiving 40 percent of its total Recovery Act weatherization funding today, I look forward to the positive results that will contribute to Florida’s economic recovery. These awards will help Florida achieve its goal of weatherizing more than 19,000 homes, lowering energy costs for low-income families that need it, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and creating green jobs across the state. Floridians will be ensured that taxpayers dollars are being spent responsibly through the creation of jobs, saving money, reducing pollutions, and strengthening Florida’s local economies.”
