Representative Mary Brandenburg (D-Lake Worth) issued the following remarks in response to Governor Charlie Crist’s signing House Bill 675, the Alonzo Mourning Access to Care Act, which expands the availability of Medicare supplemental policies to Medicare beneficiaries with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).
“I am pleased Governor Crist showed his support by signing House Bill 675 into law,” said Representative Brandenburg. “Former Miami Heat player Alonzo Mourning, who knows first-hand how important it is to have adequate coverage for life-saving medical treatments, and the leadership of the National Kidney Foundation of Florida and the Florida Renal Coalition, are to be congratulated.
“I am proud to have been able to help advocate for this critical expansion of coverage, which will enable approximately 11,050 Medicare beneficiaries with end-stage renal disease to purchase supplemental coverage policies,” added Representative Brandenburg. “For the estimated 2,000 beneficiaries who lack secondary insurance, today’s action brings hope for a better future and the potential for better days ahead.”
